God's Plan of Salvation

God has a plan for our lives.  The Bible states that plan this way:
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."  John 3:16 NIV

God wants us to have life and life eternal.  Jesus also said that he came that we can have an abundant life not just in eternity someday but have an abundant life now.
"I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly" John 10:10 NASB

God's desire is for us to spend enternity with Him in heaven.  2 Pet. 3:9 tells us that God is not willing for anyone to be lost or to die separated from Himself.  But man has a problem and is separated from God.  That problem is sin.

  • We are all sinners, by our nature and by choice: The Bible says: "for all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God"  Rom. 3:23 NIV
  • As a result of our sin, rebellion against God, we deserve death and hell: "for the wages of sin is death"  Rom. 6:23
  • We cannot save ourselves: Jesus said: "“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."  NIV

God loves us and wants us to be with HIm, but He must punish sin.  He has provided away for us to be forgiven through His son Jesus.  How can a person have that full abundant life and forgivenss?

Jesus is God and became a man.

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." John 1:1 NIV

"And the Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us."  John 1:14 NIV.

Jesus did not just appear to be a man, He became a man and walked, became hungry, became tired, he was man and yet he was also God walking with us.

Jesus lived a sinless perfect life the Bible tells us that Jesus was tempted just like we are tempted and yet He did not sin.  We deserve to die, to pay the price for our sins, Jesus lived a sinless life and yet He died for sin, for my sins and for yours.

"But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."  Rom. 5:8 NIV

  1. We must repent (turn) from our sins.  The Bible in the book of Acts says: "Repent therefore and return, that your sins may be wiped away." (Acts 3:19 NASB)
  2. We must place our Faith in Jesus:  The Bible says: "For by grace your have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, that no one should boast." (Eph. 2:8-9 NASB)
  3. We must surrender our lives, our wills to Jesus as Lord.  The Bible says: "that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved; for with the heart man believes, resulting in righteousness and with the mouth he confesses resulting in salvation."  (Rom. 10:9-10 NASB)  Surrendering to Jesus as Lord is giving Him control of our lives.
